Pharmacodynamic Attainment of the Synergism of Meropenem and Fosfomycin Combination Against Pseudomonas aeruginosa Producing Metallo-ꞵ-Lactamase.

An in vitro study with Monte Carlo simulation using the concepts of PK/PD evaluated the synergistic action of meropenem with fosfomycin dosages against P. aeruginosa isolates producing Metallo-ꞵ-Lactamase (MBL), and demonstrated an important favorable potential of these antimicrobials in combination therapy to treat infections caused by the challenged pathogens. Furthermore, the study demonstrated that extended meropenem infusion can only benefit chronic non-dialysis patients and those infected by pathogens with higher minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) (less susceptible).
